Volcanoes National Park is a gorilla trekking park lying in Northwestern Rwanda. It forms part of the Virunga Region and unlike other parks; it covers a compact area of about 160sq.km. The other border protected areas include Virunga National Park in Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Southwestern Uganda. Volcanoes Park protects more than mountain gorillas but also is home too different wildlife including; forest elephants, hyenas, buffaloes, golden monkeys, plus 5 Virunga Volcanoes- Sabyinyo, Karisimbi, Gahinga, Bisoke and Muhabura.

Day 1: Kigali city expedition & a tour to Volcanoes National Park
Visit Rwanda’s iconic historical centers: After breakfast, meet and greet your Rwanda safari guide then start your Kigali city tour expecting to last for about 2 hours. During this special city expedition, you will tour the Kigali genocide memorial located in Gisozi; craft centers, local markets, especially the Kimironko market and then proceed to have lunch. After a delicious meal, start your trip to Musanze to explore Volcanoes National Park in Northwestern Rwanda.
Connecting from Kigali to Volcanoes NP takes about 2-3 hours and this comes with breathtaking views of the countryside characterized by rolling hills. Volcanoes National Park is where a section of endangered mountain gorillas live and about 12 families are open for visitor gorilla trekking experiences. They include Sabyinyo, Umubano, Kwitonda, Amahoro, Hirwa, Karisimbi, Bwenge, Susa A, Ugenda, Titus and more. You will arrive early at Volcanoes NP; check in at your lodge where you will have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Trekking Rwanda gorillas & departure
Enjoy an early morning breakfast, after, you will gather at Kinigi for a briefing session and if you have heavy luggage, you will also hire a porter. After the briefing, you will be allocated a gorilla group and each family group is visited by maximum of 8 tourists per day. The actual tour to explore the park’s gorillas starts at 8:00 am, taking about 2-6 hours and includes one hour of a magical encounter. Retreat from the gorilla trek and lunch will be provided at the lodge. You will check out of the lodge and then start your return trip to Kigali- marking the end of 2 days Rwanda gorilla safari.
